Short answer

Immortal starts at roughly 5620 MMR — the very top of the ranked ladder, right above Divine. Unlike the other ranks, Immortal has no stars or sub-ranks: as soon as you cross the threshold the medal becomes Immortal, and the highest players get a number on the leaderboard.

The whole thing in one line

The road to Immortal is not a "secret build" but steady play on one role with a narrow hero pool. If you want it faster — the rank can be raised with a booster.

What Immortal is

To grasp the scale, it helps to see Immortal next to its neighbors:

Dota 2 top ranks
RankMMR rangeStars
Ancient3850–46205 stars
Divine4620–56205 stars
Immortal5620+No stars, leaderboard at the top

So from the top of Divine to Immortal is the final MMR push. The full ladder with every rank is in the Dota 2 ranks guide, and exactly how the number moves is in the how MMR is calculated guide.

What to work on

Approaching Immortal, mechanics and discipline matter more than flashy plays. Here is what actually moves the rank:

  1. Narrow your hero pool. 3–5 heroes per role instead of "a bit of everything" — so you play on autopilot and never get out-drafted. A primer is in the best heroes for climbing guide.
  2. Lock in one position. A fixed role gives predictable patterns and clear timings. A role breakdown is in the roles and positions guide.
  3. Sharpen farming and last-hitting. Steady income is the foundation of any rank. There is a guide on farming and last-hitting.
  4. Control the map. Wards and vision save more MMR than pretty teamfights. See the warding guide.
  5. Keep a cool head. Tilt and toxicity throw more games than weak mechanics. Calm play is a skill too.
Tip

If you are stuck in Divine — that is the most common ceiling before Immortal. A targeted breakdown is in the how to get out of Divine guide.

Realistic expectations

The main mistake is chasing a win in every single game. Over the distance, something else works:

  • Consistency beats highlight games. A steady plus over the distance climbs more reliably than a streak of luck and crashes.
  • Sessions, not marathons. After 2–3 losses in a row it is better to pause: on tilt you throw the next game.
  • Review your own games. Progress is faster for those who rewatch their mistakes, not just rack up hours.
  • No illusions about an "easy" push. Divine → Immortal is the toughest stretch by opponent strength: there are almost no easy games here.

The short path

If you have no time to grind but need the Immortal medal — the rank can be raised with a booster without handing your progress to anyone for good:

  1. Pick the format. Solo (the booster plays on the account) or duo (you play together). The difference is in the solo or duo boost guide.
  2. A 12,000+ MMR booster clears the stretch. Divine → Immortal goes noticeably faster than solo.
  3. The progress stays yours. The account, inventory and medal are yours — you just save time.
